Sister and brother: Helena e Antonio Carlos

Excerpt from the book

Tom started frequenting the bars in the Ipanema neighborhood: Zepelin, Jangadeiro - formerly known as Renania - and the Lagoa bar, formerly known as Berlim. One night in the Lagoa, an old man came in and approached the table where Tom was drinking with a few friends. The man was selling roses. With no hesitation, he pulled a red rose from the tray he was carrying and offered it to Tom, who refused politely:

- I can't. I've got no money for roses.

The man insisted:

- This is a special one. Give it to your girlfriend. What's her name ?

Tom smiled. By now his friends were watching the old man with curiosity. Despite the odd situation, Tom replied:

-Thereza. And who are you ?

His old eyes, clouded with a blue tint, stared calmly at Tom. His hair was white, the skin of his round face was pure silk, dark velvet. He was wearing an old tuxedo and a tie with painted blue birds. Tom never forgot the strangeness of his appearance, and those far-seeing eyes. And also what he said, pointing to Tom's drink:

- This isn't the place for you. Your life has a special destiny. Don't lose yourself.
