Chansong 1987Original in English
About Nesuhi Ertegun (mentioned in Jobim's lyrics for Chansong):
Atlantic Records was founded in 1946 by Ahmet Ertegun, son of a Turkish diplomat, and Herb Abramson, A&R man for National records. Later they would be joined by Jerry Wexler, a reporter for Billboard, in 1953 and who produced the company's major rhythm and blues artists, such as LaVern Baker, Ivory Joe Hunter and Ray Charles. Ertegun acquired his taste for black music while growing up in Washington D.C., where he and his brother Nesuhi would frequent the Howard Theater and scour the community for records by their favorite musicians.
Nesuhi Ertegun joined Atlantic in 1956, initially developed Atlantic's album department and built up the label's extensive catalog of jazz long-players. Nesuhi produced the following jazz artists at Atlantic: John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, Ornette Coleman, the Modern Jazz Quartet.
